WITA Proteomics’ What is Proteomics? concisely connects the dots between Big Pharma and MS.

A page of chemistry QuickTime movies, animations, and streaming audio includes a nice GC-MS animation. The Rutherford scattering animation is a good example of what you can do with a simple Flash animation. If you don’t like Flash, there is a nice lecture on Rutherford at the University of Virginia with a Rutherford scattering Java …
Proteomics portals seem to be sprouting like mushrooms after a Louisiana rain. Here’s one, ProteinScience.com, with fairly standard, but overall useful, content. It’s also easy to navigate, which rates high in my book. The ‘Patents’ page saves the trouble of IP surfing at the Delphion site. I also like the Proteomicsurf site, especially since it …
The Siemens Advance Quantra FT-MS may look like a mini-fridge, but it’s a 1T permanent magnet FTMS. Yes, it only does EI, but it does it at 20,000 mass resolution.
The first Pittcon salvo, the AccuTOF Mass Spectrometer from JEOL: “The AccuTOF is the first mass spectrometer to enable accurate mass measurement of components at both low and high concentrations. Until now, scientists were limited to working with only a narrow concentration range to obtain an accurate mass measurement. The AccuTOF revolutionizes mass spectrometry with …

I uploaded my old Simion 4.0 DOS disks and they are now linked.
The deadline for abstract submission is Friday February 22, 2002. See the 50th ASMS Conference Abstract Entry Web page for on-line abstract entry.
Be sure to register for Pittcon 2002 before February 11 to get the advance rate. Surprisingly, there is no link back to the main Pittcon site (http://www.pittcon.org/) from the registration site.
Top Chemistry Programs in US Here is some data on US chemistry department funding and peer rankings that I dug out of the funding agancy and US News sites. They are a bit tough to find, so I pulled the summary data out and left links back to the agency sites. NSF MPS Chemistry Funding …
It’s hard to find a mass spectrometry site these days that isn’t devoted to proteomics, but the Nucleic Acids Massspec Toolbox at the University of Utah is a welcome exception. Some very nice Java scripts by Jef Rozenski that let you calculate oligo mass, composition and other useful things on-line.
Here are some Web-based Isotope Pattern Caculators that I recently tracked down for a Usenet post: Molmass (Java with downloadable ‘lite’ version) http://www.oraxcel.com/projects/molmass/index.htm ChemCalc http://www.geocities.com/junhuayan/pattern.htm SIS MS Tools http://www.sisweb.com/cgi-bin/mass10.pl Sheffield Chemputer http://www.shef.ac.uk/~chem/chemputer/isotopes.html For stand-alone there is Isopro for Windows http://members.aol.com/msmssoft/ and the Macintosh Isotope Pattern Calculator http://info-mac.acornsw.com/infomac/_SCIENCE_AND_MATH/ISOTOPE-PATTERN-CALC-166.HTML
I added the “MS NEWS” headlines courtesy of Moreover Technologies and about 20 minutes of Javascript cut-and-paste. The process is called Web syndication and the small quantity of it on this page is free.
Presentations from the ASMS Fall workshop on High Throughput and Automated Mass Spectrometry are online as PDF files.
