[re the ASMS poster definition] The term molecular ion should be reserved to ions formed by addition or removal of an electron from the intact, neutral molecule: M+. or M-.
MH+ is the protonated molecule [M - H]- is the deprotonated molecule. [M + Na]+ is the Na+ adduct and so on...
Otherwise, it is a chaos since who is going to define the size limits for the "small units" Otherwise people will continue to use obnoxious terms such as "protonated molecular ion"
