[re the ASMS poster definition] The term molecular ion should be reserved to ions formed by addition or removal of an electron from the intact, neutral molecule: M+. or M-.

MH+ is the protonated molecule
MH<sup>+</sup> is the [[protonated molecule]]
[M - H]- is the deprotonated molecule.
[M - H]<sup>-</sup> is the [[deprotonated molecule]].
[M + Na]+ is the Na+ adduct and so on...
[M + Na]<sup>+</sup> is the Na<sup>+</sup> adduct and so on...


Otherwise, it is a chaos since who is going to define the size limits for the "small units"
