DRAFT DEFINITION |
Conversion dynode |
---|
A conversion dynode is used to increase the secondary emission characteristics for heavy ions and thus reduce the mass discrimination of the detector. A high potential, of opposite polarity to the ions detected, is used to attract these ions to the dynode. Secondary electrons are produced when the ions hit the dynode and are subsequently recorded via the detector used. |
